About Me
Hi! My name is Cole Weaver. I build websites for local home service businesses in SWFL (ex: plumbers, electricians, carpenters, landscapers, general contractors, etc).
Below is a bit about me, as well as a picture so you can put a face to the name.
A bit about me:
- Born and raised in Texas 🤠
- Spent past 8 years working in academia (4 years at Harvard, 4 years at the University of Chicago)
- Started building websites during COVID. At the time of writing, I have worked with ~40-45 small and medium sized business owners in home improvement service industries (ex: landscaping, plumbing, roofing, etc).
You can find a few of my recent websites linked here, here, and here.
Website FAQs
When will the website be finished?
Within one week of payment. If you have a domain already, it will be within one week of when we finish transferring your domain over to Hostinger.
Why do I need to transfer my existing domain to Hostinger?
Based on my experience, Hostinger is just the best option for this type of stuff. It’s the cheapest (short term and long term), has the best customer support, and gives you really fast page load speeds (so your website doesn’t lag or glitch when someone first opens it).
I might want to make edits to my website in the future. Can I ask you to do that for me if I have an idea in a couple of months?
Short answer is no.
Longer answer is that in order for me to be “on call” like that for everyone, I’d have to charge quite a pretty penny, at which point it would no longer be a good deal for you.
However, I will set up your website so it’s a LOT more user-friendly to edit than the standard, “out of the box” WordPress system. I’ll also send you a video showing you how to log in to your website and make simple edits to things like text and photos.
What’s the catch?
The “catch” is that there are monthly maintenance fees.
How much are the monthly fees?
It depends, but usually they’re in the ballpark of a small-ish utility bill. However, it can range all the way up to paying a new mortgage. Depends on what bells and whistles you want.
What am I paying you month-to-month for, once the website is already built?
I’m in charge of making sure your website never goes down or gets too out of date.
For example, let’s say two years from now WordPress phases out the theme your site is using. I’ll be the one to go in and change your site to a new theme and get everything set up properly again.
Basically, you’re paying me so that you never have to think about your website or worry that something is going to go out of date or crash. You can kind of think of it like insurance.
Can’t I just use one of the user-friendly website builders like Squarespace, Weebly, or Wix?
You certainly can. However, I’ve noticed that these website builders are often bad long term investments. If you want to do something more advanced with them in the future, you will likely find that you don’t have that option.
For example, let’s say you set up a website with Wix. Then in a year you realize your website loads super slowly because Wix’s web hosting sucks (true story). At this point you would normally transfer your domain to another service provider. However, you would then find that Wix holds your domain hostage and does not allow you to transfer to another service provider (again, true story).
This would kind of be like setting up an account with a bank, and then years later realizing you’re not allowed to transfer any of your money to a different bank. It’s ridiculous. (Squarespace and Weebly have their own long-term problems as well.)
So instead, I’m going to get you set up properly from the start. I’ll give your website a solid foundation so you can build on it in the future, if you ever want to.
How are you so devilishly handsome?
Genetics, baby.
